Transportation & Transport System

Taxi / Taxis

There are taxi stands in all major towns and many tourist centers. Taxis can also be conveniently ordered by phone (important phone numbers are usually available in most accommodations). It is advisable to ask at the hotel reception.

For vacation homes outside the tourist areas, renting a car is recommended. Ordering a taxi to remote places can often be difficult as drivers usually don’t speak German or English. If you are traveling more than 30 km by taxi or have rented a remote holiday home, it's better to choose a rental car. Rental cars should be booked in advance as prices on-site can be up to 30% higher. An overview of various providers can be found here.

Attention:

    • Saturday in the high season at the airport

    • On August 8th (local holiday)

    • At Easter, Christmas, New Year's Eve/New Year's Day

    • During the opening and closing parties of the famous Ibiza clubs

Taxi fares are calculated using the taximeter, with luggage items and an airport surcharge charged separately.

For night owls, many clubs and discos offer a travel reimbursement if at least 3-4 people travel by taxi and pay the entry fee.

Buses / Bus Connections

Ibiza has a well-developed bus network with regular connections between the main towns and tourist centers. Buses generally run every half hour. At the bus stations in Santa Eulalia, San Antonio, and Ibiza Town, travelers can transfer to reach smaller towns or beaches, which are served several times a day.

The journey to remote villages like Santa Inés or San Mateo is more complicated. During the summer season, the main lines run from about 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM. At night, special disco buses operate, bringing night owls to the clubs and back from midnight to 6:00 AM. The regular bus service operates year-round, while the disco buses run only from June to September.

All buses are air-conditioned and very affordable - prices are around 2 euros per trip. You can find out where the nearest bus stop is at your accommodation’s reception. Timetables are also available on Ibizabus.com. It’s advisable to print them out in advance.

Ferries / Boats / Water Taxis

There are small boats and ferries (water taxis) operating between some locations. These connections are not only practical but also scenically appealing. Examples include:

    • From Es Canar to Santa Eulalia

    • From Santa Eulalia to Ibiza Town

    • From Talamanca to Ibiza Town

    • From Playa d’en Bossa to Salinas

The small ferry from Marina Botafoch departs near the Café Sidney and heads to the harbor promenade in Ibiza’s Old Town.

Ferries to Formentera run several times a day year-round from Ibiza Town. During the season, there are also morning and midday connections from Santa Eulalia and Playa d’en Bossa.

    • As mentioned above: 0.25% or 0.15% for beginners

    • Parking and towing regulations also apply to motorcycles

UBER

Uber is not widely available on Ibiza due to strict regulations for ride services. Instead, traditional taxis and local transport options like water taxis or buses are preferred. Travelers should therefore take taxis directly from the taxi stands or use local providers. Alternatively, rental cars and scooters are also popular options to explore Ibiza flexibly.
