Curiosities about Ibiza

1: DJs often travel long distances to reach the white island. Sven Väth hitchhiked from Barcelona and spent three months on the beaches. Carl Cox arrived and had to sleep for two days with his girlfriend and sister in a Fiat Panda.
2: The permanent population of Ibiza is about 150,000, but it rises to over 550,000 in the summer due to the influx of tourists. In 2023, more than 3.7 million tourists visited Ibiza.
3: The Gran Hotel Montesol de Vara de Rey in Ibiza Town is the oldest hotel on the island and was opened in 1933. During the Spanish Civil War, the hotel served as a military base.
4: The mouth of the only river in the Balearic Islands is located in Santa Eulalia. The river stretches for about 15 km, although it dries up during most of the summer due to the heat. Therefore, Santa Eulalia is the best place to view it.
5: Originally, Ibiza was not an island archipelago. Billions of years ago, the Mediterranean basin filled with water from the Atlantic Ocean, and the current islands are essentially the exposed mountain peaks that were once above sea level.

10: The only plane crash on Ibiza occurred on January 7, 1972. A plane traveling from Valencia to Ibiza airport crashed into a slope at the highest point of the island, Sa Talaia. All six crew members and 98 passengers were killed.
